FOLKESTONE LIVING ADVENT CALENDAR 2023

A very exciting month ahead for the many people participating in this year’s living advent calendar. We have a performance every evening at 6 pm so pop along to support the many people, groups and businesses that get involved in this great charity event.

What a brilliant event from the organisation to the talks it was one of the best! The new curators Jen Thatcher and James Harkin did an outstanding job with many interesting authors and events this year. I attended some of the talks including Frances Tophill from Gardeners World which was a highlight for me as gardening is one of my passions. I bought one of her books about rewilding your garden, which is good and available on Amazon. Hopefully, Frances will be able to do a talk at my writing group next year about writing a gardening book. One of…
View PostHALLOWEEN FOR CHILDREN

It’s very hard if you are not in a suitable area to take your children trick or treating so I have come up with a few ideas to get them in the mood for Halloween in the comfort of their home. These can all be printed off. For the little toddlers you can go on a hunt for things in the garden or park for these, even add your own or make up different ones. Maybe give a piece of fruit every time they find something and tick it off their paper. For the ones that love to colour there…
View PostBUYING PRESENTS FOR CHRISTMAS

This seems to get harder every year as the older people get, including children they appear to have just about everything they need. If they do write lists you will have to win the lottery to get everything, which kids fail to understand, Santa has loads of money in their world. Here you have some questions to ask so that it helps you compile your own list for your budget. Many shops have their sales on for the toys so have a good look around online before you traipse around all the shops as this definitely makes it easier. I…
View PostBOOKSHOP DAY 14th OCTOBER 2023

THE NEW FOLKESTONE BOOK SHOP, TONTINE STREET, FOLKESTONE, KENT If you have not been to the bookshop on Tontine Street then you have been missing out on the best assortment of books anywhere in Folkestone. It is hard to believe they have been open for over a year now and are fast becoming the place to go for a coffee, chat, work or browse around the many books they have on offer. I love Jenny’s pictures on the front doors as they make it stand out as a very friendly place. @jennylouise.davis @jennylouise.illustration The sun is out so just the…
View PostOCTOBER 2023

o It’s so lovely to have sunshine still on some days, long may it continue, I think it was last year that it was still warm during the day on Halloween. I must admit I dread the clocks changing and it being dark by 4 pm, it’s so depressing and the only good thing is that you shut the blinds/curtains and light your candles. I appear to be collecting them as I have lots to use this winter. I didn’t want to mention Christmas but when someone said they only have three paydays, it made me realise that it really…

View PostSUMMER FUN

I love this picture; it looks like they are plotting something, probably to throw water all over me! This is known as the fountains and the kids love it when they shoot up high. The best bit is that it is one of the super free things to do with the children, remember to take some snacks, why are children always starving after they have been in water? My daughter works in one of the hotels in Folkestone which has a swimming pool so we took them all over there, hopefully, to wear them all out, no it didn’t work.…
View PostFOLKESTONE AIR SHOW

RED ARROWS The red arrows are always the best part of an air show, they were brilliant today and Folkestone really attracted the crowds what with the football final this morning. Well done to Spain, I am sure England’s girls will get there soon. People were queuing for a good couple of hours before it opened on the Harbour Arm as they would only let in 800. I would say there were a few thousand people watching the air show this afternoon plus the ones that could see it from their houses and gardens. The weather has been beautiful and…
