ARE YOU EMERGENCY READY?

When I first saw this headline, it made me click on it just to see what it’s all about! I was shocked; were you? My immediate thought was World War III. When you read through it, it does make sense about power cuts and flooding, so we should all be aware of that, unless you live on top of a hill! Power cuts are a nuisance, but if you have candles and USB charging lights or even solar lights on a windowsill in the sunshine, you can manage. My biggest problem would be cooking, as I am all electric; it will be cold food, or I can buy one of these camping stoves with gas canisters for £17.99 from Amazon, link here. The best bit it comes in a smart case that you can just pop in a cupboard. This is as of today; it’s sold out, but it does send you to others that are the same.

I will be buying one other thing, which is a combination of a torch, radio, plus a charger for your phone and any other USB leads for charging small lights, etc. This is solar-powered, so leave it on your windowsill and, prior to a power cut, keep it fully charged. This is also available from Amazon for £22.99

I will get some basic tins, but not too many, as I am on my own and don’t really use tin foods. The first thing that comes to mind would be tuna and soup. I will purchase some batteries for my smaller torch. I order my shopping online, so I will get some bottles of water but not too many, as I have nowhere to store them. I am sure this will be a problem for many people. Making sure my car has petrol, plus I will get some cash out. I will order another prescription so I have a month’s supply in case the internet goes down.

Going by these lists, I think I have covered all the essentials if you live alone. I must admit it could be a nightmare for big families; where on earth would you store everything? I guess some things could go in the garden or on the balcony, but if you have none of them, you are going to be crowded.

Are you prepared, or do you not believe that anything that bad is ever going to happen?
