HALLOWEEN FOR CHILDREN

HALLOWEEN FOR CHILDREN

It’s very hard if you are not in a suitable area to take your children trick or treating so I have come up with a few ideas to get them in the mood for Halloween in the comfort of their home. These can all be printed off. For the little toddlers you can go on a hunt for things in the garden or park for these, even add your own or make up different ones. Maybe give a piece of fruit every time they find something and tick it off their paper. For the ones that love to colour there…

MY BOOK OF THE YEAR 2022

MY BOOK OF THE YEAR 2022

MY BOOK OF THE YEAR FOR 2022 This book made me laugh out loud, relatable if you have tried online dating. Well written so that once you start you cannot put this book down, I loved it. Please read my review at https://karensworld.uk/breakfast-at-stephanies-by-beth-thomas-book-review Available on Amazon here. 44 BOOKS READ IN 2022 A very mixed year for me, but I must have done more as I only read 44 books which is down on the last couple of years. More holidays and outings with friends were highlights and such fun, it looks like there will be more next year as…

BIRCHINGTON LITERARY FESTIVAL

BIRCHINGTON LITERARY FESTIVAL

Birchington has joined the literary buzz around the southeast with its first festival. Today was day one, the sun was shining, there was cake, interesting authors and plenty of people to listen. It made for an interesting day, I attended Carol Salters creative writing workshop where the topic was all about your characters and bringing them to life. It was really interesting, especially for the people that make a profile for each character, we are all different so don’t shout about “you don’t do it like that” The pop-up book shop was very popular with authors there to…

HELLO OCTOBER

HELLO OCTOBER

Shorter days, falling leaves and pumpkins for Halloween. Autumn is here so we say goodbye to sunny days at the beach, not that we have had many of them this year. What does October mean for you? All I can think of is heating on, cold, wet and windy days just like it is today but then the nice things are getting cosy on the sofa with your favourite soft throw, lighting the candles and having a mug of drinking chocolate with a dash of Baileys of course and then a good film or series. I have some good books…

WHAT TO DO TODAY? SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2021

WHAT TO DO TODAY? SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2021

HYTHE FESTIVAL I popped over to Hythe yesterday which is only about five minutes from Folkestone in the car, traffic was minimal and parking was ok. On the green, in the middle of the one-way system they were holding the festival and my writing group Write By The Sea had a few tables where members were selling their books plus we had use of the marquee for some readings. It was great to see some of the stories from our two anthologies coming to life on the stage.   The festival was buzzing with many people meandering around the stalls,…

SUNNY SEPTEMBER

SUNNY SEPTEMBER

As August was a washout it was a pleasant surprise that the sun has been shining this month, long may it continue but the nasty weatherman keeps saying it is going to rain next week!  I always think it is good when we have a bit of sun during September/October as it feels like winter will be a shorter season. THE FOUNTAINS We have the fountains in Folkestone so to make the most of the sunshine we took the children down there after school, they could really play for hours running in and out and collecting the water. Even Enzo…

BOOK FESTIVAL TABLE

BOOK FESTIVAL TABLE

This is what you call a well-planned and laid-out table, does it help sell more books though?   This table had piles of books, no swag, no decoration just the author and his books. Would you stop at this table and have a chat?   Above we have two very different tables at a book festival I organised a couple of years ago.  I was really impressed with Bea’s table, it looked bright and catchy plus there were things to give away. This table would attract readers to look at the book so you could have a chat, offer them…

NEW ENGLISH TEA TINS

NEW ENGLISH TEA TINS

These tins are so cute so they look very attractive on a shelf, I have a small shelf in the camper van and often wonder what to put on there. These tins fit perfectly and can be filled with anything after you have drunk the tea, nothing quite like a good cup of tea any time of the day. The gardening one is perfect for ties or string as I am always losing bits like that out in the garden so now they have their own tin. I’m loving the bunting and the tea party tin also the breakfast tea…

THE WRITE WAY TO DIE BY JO BAVINGTON-JONES – BOOK REVIEW

THE WRITE WAY TO DIE BY JO BAVINGTON-JONES – BOOK REVIEW

PUBLISHED BY THE CONRAD PRESS ON 1st JULY 2021 ‘The Write Way to Die’ is a fast-paced and intriguing blackly comic tale of murder in the creative quarter of a seaside town where the bodies are mounting up amongst the art installations. When Amy joins a writing group, it’s murder. On paper, at least, as the eclectic members pen their perfect killings. The planner, the housewife, the pantser and the classicist all contribute their stories, some darkly comic, others simply gruesome. Then there’s Robert, who wants to write a killer worthy of a nickname. Enter The Exhibitionist, the stuff of…
