SOHO HOTELS WE STAYED IN DURING OUR TRIP TO LONDON

This is a guest post from Kara.

Mimi’s Hotel Soho – 6/10

❖56-57 Frith Street, London W1D 3JG

Myself (Kara Whitby) and Nan (Karen Marwood) stayed at this hotel from Saturday 15th

February 2025 – Sunday, 16th February 2025. This hotel cost us £162.76 for one room with a

double bed. This room was also in the basement of the hotel, which had no windows.

The reception team were very accommodating and helped us with checking in as well as

showing us (with a map) where everything was around Soho.

The room itself was a small rectangular room with the double bed situated on the left hand

side as you walked into the room, and then a small telly on the wall on the right with a coffee

machine facility below the dressing table with a square stool underneath it. The only

problem I found here is I do not drink coffee, there were no alternatives for this and it was

only the machine, so it also did not offer decaf for nan.

This was all very compact but very well laid out, so you get everything into one room without

missing out on anything, apart from the no windows. The bathroom was through a door

on the right which had a sink, toilet and shower. The pressure from the shower was very

good and the temperature stayed the same and didn’t drop in and out, which was good.

The room had air conditioning and free wifi, and all rooms were key card accessible.

Zedwell Underground Hotel, Tottenham Court Road – 8/10

❖112 Great Russell Street, Camden, London, WC1B 3NQ

This was the second hotel we stayed at from Sunday, 16th February 2025 – Monday 17th

February 2025. This hotel cost us £78.57 per night for one room with a double bed and

again no windows.

Zedwell Underground Hotel rooms are all underground as their name, again,

they are all very thought out and the space is well saved. This had a double bed to the left as

you walked in and a bathroom to the right with sliding doors to separate these two rooms.

It had a toilet, sink and shower. Again, the pressure was amazing and the temperature didn’t

drop in and out.

This hotel let us check in early for free. This is normally a charge, however, the rooms were

ready and the manager, Saurabh, was on the desk to help us, so we weren’t waiting around

for 2 hours. Check-in is normally 3 pm and checkout is at 10 am. The rooms didn’t have tea

and coffee facilities in them; however, the reception area had a hot/cold water tap and all the

tea and coffee amenities to make your drinks and paper cups to take to your rooms if

needed. This helped when Nan had a sore throat and needed a lemsip. I could make it and

take it to the room, also when we checked out we could still enjoy a cuppa in the reception

area before having to leave and start our day.

This hotel offered air conditioning, free wifi and card accessible rooms.

Assembly Leicester Square – 7/10

❖27 – 31 Charing Cross Road, Westminster Borough, London, WC2H 0LS

This was the third and last hotel we stayed at. This was from Monday, 17th February 2025 –

Tuesday, 18th February 2025. This hotel cost us £179.33 for one night and one room, which

had a double bed and a bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. The only difference

with this hotel to the others was we weren’t put in the basement; we were put on the eighth

floor / 10 floors and we had a lovely view of the London Eye and the cheese grater building

as we all called it. Check-in was at 3 pm and checkout was at 11 am. Again, this hotel let us

check in early for free; no charge was added. As well as this, when we checked out we could

leave our bags in a safe place with no extra charge for this either. This hotel had a rooftop

bar/restaurant. This is what sold me on choosing this hotel, as well as the random rabbit

decorations and props that were around the hotel. However, once we were in the hotel, not

much of this was seen apart from a rabbit in the room and the random rabbits in the reception

area.

None of this was continued into the restaurant area, also the prices were very steep, I had

a Disaronno and coke and nan had a glass of prosecco and this came to £24.47.

Again our room at the Assembly Leicester Square didn’t have any tea or coffee facilities in

the rooms, and also nowhere for us to use these apart from buying it from the restaurant

upstairs, so this was not included in the price.

This hotel offers air conditioning, free wifi and key card access.

All these hotels are within walking distance of each other and close to all the things we wanted to see and do in London.

I agree with you, Kara, that the Zedwell underground hotel was the best for us. I liked the large reception as it had seating areas throughout and free drinks. We only had to walk around the corner to reach the theatre that evening.

I was surprised with the underground rooms as I had never seen or heard of this before, but when all you are doing is changing and sleeping they had everything you require plus all the bathrooms were excellent.

Thank you, Kara for writing this super review. Maybe you should be a blogger as well as an event planner.
