Published by Long Overdue Books
I met this author, Joy, when I was running the writing group in Folkestone, Kent and she kindly gave me her new book to review, I must admit the front cover appealed to me as I am sure it will to others. The setting was the Dordogne in France which is a lovely area easily reached from the south coast in the UK.
The Patterson family are starting a new life there with their two teenagers, what starts as a new adventure turns into a period of their lives they would never forget. Maisie who is almost 17 has to learn the language and take her exams all the while working out what she wants to do with her life after school. Dan, the older brother who Maise adores protests about leaving all he knew in England and makes some poor choices. The growing up of their children puts many pressures on the parents, resulting in disastrous consequences.
I liked this story and could not put it down, short chapters that left you wanting to read the next one. The ending was unexpected but I am assuming that there will be a second book, I hope we don’t have to wait too long. The story is told by Maisie so you can feel her pain in everything she has to negotiate that’s going on in their lives plus the heartache of growing up and your feelings for boys.
Well recommended and in my top 10 books of the year.
