Getting off the train, our first stop was the 100-year-old Dutch book barge moored in London. I have wanted to see this for so long; it was a short stroll from St Pancreas station. It is very popular, especially in the summer. Although it was cold, they still had some books outside, and a musician kept everyone entertained. For some reason, I thought this was just secondhand books, but it is full of new books as well, with such a vast choice. There are little seating areas and a children’s corner. I loved the wood-burning stove to take the chill off.

I loved seeing the antique typewriters and odds and ends mixed with the books around the boat. There is so much to look at, as well as all the books. During the year, they also have poetry readings, book launches, and other events.

This was a brilliant start to our four-day trip to London.

There is a creative writing group held by Oliver Cable.
